In your will, you decide what happens to your hard-earned money and property and who gets what. Sadly, this means if you do not have a valid up-to-date will, the State decides for you, and this might not be in accordance with your wishes.

More and more couples are choosing to live together instead of getting married these days. Many of them are unaware that in the eyes of the law, they do not automatically inherit their partner's estate, no matter how long they've been together. In such circumstances, it is important to act or you will leave your partner without financial protection.

Are you worth more than £312,000, the current Inheritance Tax threshold? If on death your net estate exceeds the current tax threshold, the Inland Revenue will take 40% of the excess, for example, on an estate worth £400,000, the tax bill would be £35,200. With proper planning, you can organise your estate in the most tax-efficient way, preserving your wealth for your loved ones.
